Binion Collection – 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar, VAM-1C

Binion Collection – 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar, VAM-1C

Binion Collection Population - 4 Silver Dollars

Binion Collection – Very rare – This is another very rare variety with only 4, Binion 1886 VAM-1C, "3+2" Clash Morgan dollars authenticated and graded by NGC according to the 2014 Population Report. The NGC 2009 statistics do not show any 1886 of this type variety and again support the theory of the decrease in non-variety coins being offset by the increase in VAM populations.

Three of the silver dollars were graded as MS64 and the remaining one received the highest grade of the group with an MS66 designation. Shown here are 2 of the 4 known/identified coins to date or 50% of the total population.  The MS66 1886 VAM-1C, "3+2" Clash shown is the highest grade known to date.

Binion Collection – 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar, VAM-1A

Binion Collection Population - 15 Silver Dollars

Binion Collection – Very rare – The NGC 2014 census statistics show a population of only 15 Binion 1886 VAM-1A Morgan dollars authenticated and graded by NGC (the 2009 report shows a population of 12 coins).  This supports the theory on the decrease in non-variety coins and increase in VAM populations.

Binion Collection – 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 2,538 Silver Dollars

Binion Collection – Population statistics for this date/mintmark are interesting in that the 2009 census statistics report 2,548 coins while the 2014 census statistics report 2,538 coins (excluding VAM varieties).  Generally, one would not expect a decrease in the population; however, in this case the decrease may be the reflection of the increase in the number of 1886 VAM coins that have been identified Year 2014 over Year 2009.  VAM coins will be covered in subsequent listings.

While this date/mintmark is not rare, it is also not common and generally brings a slight premium price in auction. The 1886 Binion displayed here has been graded as MS65 by NGC with partial toning on the obverse of the coin while the reverse has an attractive silver brilliance.
