Binion Collection – 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar; 8/7 VAM-6

Binion Collection – 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar; 8/7 VAM-6

Binion Collection Population - 2 Silver Dollars

Binion Collection – Extremely Rare - According to both the NGC January 2014 statistics and the NGC October 2009 Census Report, there were only 2, 1880-O 8/7 TF, VAM-6 Binion Morgan silver dollars graded and authenticated which makes this coin extremely rare. This coin has been graded AU58 by NGC.

Binion Collection – 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar; VAM-1A

Binion Collection – 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar; VAM-1A

Binion Collection Population - 12 Silver Dollars (VAM-1A Variety).

Binion Collection - Very Rare – The VAM-1A population statistics reflect an inconsistency between the 2009 and 2014 NGC population reports.  Overall, for all the 1880-O Binion Morgan silver dollars the reports are equal with 31 coins being graded/authenticated.  However the problem develops with the 2009 report showing a population of 12, VAM-1A varieties while the 2014 report shows no coins authenticated or graded.  In contrast, the 2014 report shows a population of 12, VAM-48 varieties while the 2009 report shows no coins of that variety.  What further complicates this problem is that the NGC certification registry shows this coin as a VAM-48 variety even though the NGC labeled coin shown here is designated as a VAM-1A.  This leads me to believe that the VAM-1A and VAM-48 are the same VAM variety as far as Binion population statistics are concerned.

Binion Collection – 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 1,366 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection – The 2014 Binion population statistics show 1,366 Morgan silver dollars dated 1980 and minted at Philadelphia graded and authenticated by NGC as from the Binion Hoard. This does not include 2 that are classified as VAM1-A. With this population level, the coin group is not classified as rare but still is a bit more difficult to locate. This coin is a well struck, MS64, with minimal distractions. This population figure is an increase over the 2009 reported census of 1,289.

Binion Collection – 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 273 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection - There were only 273, 1879 San Francisco mintmark Binion Morgan silver dollars graded which makes this coin a difficult one for the Binion collector to acquire. My example is a higher end MS64 with a strong strike. Both the 2014 and 2009 NGC census statistics were consistent with this count.

Binion Collection – 1879-O/O Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1879-O/O Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 7 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection - Extremely Rare – There were only 7, 1879-O/O Binion's graded and they were all VAM-4, Top-100 coin, and the O/O variety. NGC only graded 1 Binion 1879-O/O higher that this AU58 grade. Both the 2014 and 2009 NGC census statistics were consistent with this count.

Binion Collection – 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 2 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection - Extremely Rare – Both the 2014 and 2009 NGC census statistics show that only 2 Philadelphia minted 1879 Morgan silver dollars reside in the Binion Collection and both of them were graded as MS62. In appearance, this coin is a typical MS62 silver dollar; however, in rarity it is highly desired by the Binion collector regardless of the grade.

Binion Collection – 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection – 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar

Binion Collection Population - 1,477 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection – NGC has authenticated and graded 1,477 Morgan silver dollars for the 1878-S date/mintmark in the Binion hoard which makes this coin a bit more difficult to find, but not rare. My example is a typical/solid MS63 coin with no toning.  Source:  The 2014 NGC population statistics.

Binion Collection - 1878 7/8TF Morgan Silver Dollar VAM-37

Binion Collection Population - 3 Silver Dollars.

Binion Collection - Extremely Rare – There were only 3 Binion 1878 7/8TF Morgan silver dollars authenticated and graded in the VAM-37 variety.  Without saying this coin is another of the very rare 1878 varieties in the Binion hoard. Source: Both the 2014 and 2009 NGC reports are consistent with this population figure.

Binion Collection - 1878 7/8TF Morgan Silver Dollar VAM-32

Binion Collection - 1878 7/8TF Morgan Silver Dollar VAM-32

Binion Collection Population - 1 Silver Dollar.

Binion Collection – Extremely Rare (Unique) – This is another rarest of the rare Morgan silver dollars in two ways. First, this is the only VAM-32 variety graded and authenticated in the Binion Hoard. You will find no other; this is it. Second, NGC has only graded 16 Morgan VAM-32 silver dollars in the entire population of 1878. It is a Top-100 VAM variety silver dollar.
