Rick's Pedigree Coins – 1882-CC MS63 DPL Morgan from the Fitzgerald Collection

A few weeks ago, I wrote a column about a rare 1880 8/7 “O” Top-100 VAM-6 Binion Collection Morgan silver dollar that appeared in a David Lawrence Rare & Certified Coins auction.  The NGC census report showed that this variety had a population of only 2 coins being graded and authenticated from the Binion Collection.  So some lucky Binion collector was able to lay claim to this rarity.

Well, the folks at DLR&C Coins equaled that offering this past week with an 1882-CC MS63 DPL from the Fitzgerald Collection in their auction.  A quick reference to my book “Fitzgerald Silver Dollar Collection – “The Purple Gang Set” showed this Morgan also has a population of only 2 coins from the Fitzgerald find.  What a great addition to any Fitzgerald collection.  No more than 2 people will be able to claim ownership for the 1882-CC DPL MS63 in their collection.
I guess lightning does strike twice.
